The Umi Trio Japanese knife set brings together the three essential blades of any kitchen: a versatile Santoku knife, an 8" (20 cm) Japanese chef's knife and a precision paring knife. With their 67-layer Damascus blades made of hard, vacuum heat-treated steel (≈ 60 HRC), they hold their edge for a very long time and handle almost all of your everyday cutting.

  • 3 Japanese knives: 7" (18 cm) Santoku, 8" (20 cm) chef's knife, 3.5" (9 cm) paring knife
  • 67-layer Damascus blade, ≈ 60 HRC vacuum heat-treated steel
  • Handles in blue epoxy resin and stabilized wood
  • Save 15% compared to buying the knives separately
  • 60-day returns, tracked shipping

● What's in the set

Knife Blade Weight Best for
Umi Santoku knife 7" (18 cm) ≈ 6.3 oz (180 g) All-purpose: vegetables, meat, fish
Umi chef's knife (Gyuto) 8" (20 cm) ≈ 6.3 oz (180 g) Large cuts, mincing, rocking cuts
Umi paring knife 3.5" (9 cm) ≈ 3 oz (85 g) Peeling, trimming, precision work

● Why this Japanese knife trio?

These three knives complement each other perfectly. The Santoku is your everyday knife: vegetables, meat or fish, it slices through everything with a straight up-and-down motion. The longer, pointed chef's knife takes over for large cuts and rocking cuts.

The paring knife takes care of the small jobs: peeling, trimming, cutting a shallot or a piece of fruit. With this set, you're equipped for the vast majority of recipes without piling up knives.

● 67-layer Damascus steel: an edge that lasts

Each blade is made of 67 layers of steel, which give it its unique wavy pattern. The cutting edge relies on hard, vacuum heat-treated steel (≈ 60 HRC), much harder than a typical kitchen knife (≈ 54-56 HRC).

The result: a fine, precise edge that glides through food without crushing it, and stays sharp for a long time. The blue epoxy resin and stabilized wood handles give you a comfortable grip and a one-of-a-kind look.

● A gift idea for cooking lovers

Beautiful, useful every day and built to last, the Umi Trio set is an ideal gift for any cook, whether they're just starting out or have been cooking for years. In France, tradition says you give a small coin in exchange for a knife received as a gift, so as not to “cut” the bond.

● Save 15% with the set

The set costs you about 15% less than buying the three knives separately.

Prefer just one knife? Find the Umi Santoku, the Umi chef's knife (8" or 9.5") and the Umi paring knife individually, or browse all our Japanese knives.

● FAQ: Umi Trio Japanese knife set

What's in the Umi Trio Japanese knife set?

The Umi Trio set includes three Japanese knives with 67-layer Damascus blades: a 7" (18 cm) Santoku knife, an 8" (20 cm) chef's knife (Gyuto) and a 3.5" (9 cm) paring knife. All three blades are made of hard, vacuum heat-treated steel (≈ 60 HRC), with a blue epoxy resin and stabilized wood handle.

Why choose a set instead of individual knives?

The set brings together the three most useful knives in the kitchen and saves you about 15% compared to buying them separately. With the Santoku, the chef's knife and the paring knife, you cover the vast majority of everyday cutting tasks.

Is this set a good choice for getting started with Japanese knives?

Yes. The Santoku is the easiest Japanese knife to get the hang of, the paring knife handles the small jobs and the chef's knife is there for you as you gain confidence. It's the ideal kit to get started without making the wrong choice.

Are the knives in the set dishwasher safe?

No. Heat and detergents damage Damascus steel and dull the edge. Wash your knives by hand right after use, then dry them immediately with a towel to keep them looking like new for years.

How do I sharpen the knives in the set?

Use a water whetstone: 1000 grit to sharpen, then 3000 to 6000 grit to finish. Between sharpenings, simply honing the edge is enough to keep them cutting well.

Does the set come in a gift box?

No, the set comes in standard packaging, without a gift box. It still makes a beautiful gift for anyone who loves to cook. In France, tradition says you give a small coin in exchange for a knife received as a gift.

Can I return the set?

Yes. You have 60 days to return your set if it's not right for you. Shipping is tracked, and our customer service team is happy to answer all your questions before and after your order.
